(photos I took), it occurred to me that the creator of the Blue Beetle comic book character was inspired by that little car with the hood in the front and the engine in the back.
And now, the old Blue Beetle - both car and character - have been replaced. Talk about irony. You have to wonder if the redesigned VW subconsciously inspired the killing of Ted Kord in the comics. I'm merely passing on what I learned today from three widows (all from the same family) I interviewed:
- If you don't act fast when a spouse passes, you lose your rights to life insurance and union benefits.
- Social Security will ask for a month of retirement benefits BACK when your spouse dies, and then pay you survivor benefits the next month. They literally want old widows to return that month's social security check even if it's the last day of the month and the money was spent. If the widow has Direct Deposit, the bank will dutifully take the money out of the widow's checking account automatically and return it to the proper authorities.
- When Salvation Army comes to pick up stuff your donating, they can be insensitive jerks and very demanding.
- When your spouse passes, your house turns into a museum.
- Life means nothing.
- There's no point in stressing out and rushing around ... In the end, we all die. Might as well laugh a little, try to have some fun, enjoy life.
- They'll never forget the night their little grandson/grandnephew beat the adults at dominoes.

What I learned watching the news today

Mumbai terrorist attack=death of news anchor woman="Happy black Friday!"
I learned on NPR that shoppers in Alexandria, Virginia are buying gifts for themselves (not others) at 5:00am, and only buying stuff that is on sale. Oh, hell, just throw a dart at a map and you'll hit a country that is worse off than the U.S. They WISH they had a childhood obesity epidemic!
That's like King Henry VIII announcing, "Gouter is an epidemic." The serfs would burn those announcements.
America is a wealthy nation. While pirates terrorize hard-working sailors off the coast of Somalia ... While Russia and Venezuela make their plans ... While China becomes the world's dominant player ... Our friends in Iraq, Israel, and Afghanistan need it.
Since you, western civilization, have jumped the shark, I am merely following this to it's logical conclusion. Truman=Obama. It's true. It's true.
We know deep down, all you sick CL jerks want to wake up one morning and see Tehran laid waste by a giant man in a rubber Godzilla suit, with atomic spray paint blasting out of his mouth.
I am merely voicing what you want. Godzilla will keep you comfortable and perverted. You won't be stuck in a hotel Rwanda or hotel Mumbai, hiding in a shower or under your bed as bullets fly by and explosions are heard in the hallway.
I, like Damian, am here to serve you.
We know you desire a military budget of one nuke in Tehran. We know you want Godzilla, in the worst way possible, to happen in real life.
Consequences? You ignore geopolitical consequences the same way you ignore the consequences of unprotected sex with an imperfect stranger. You believe in rolling the dice and getting a well-built car in 40 years from a subjugated ally.

"You're alive! As you know, the President and the 50 Governors of these United States, along with some local Mayors, have spared many lives this holiday season. Also, the makers of Tofurkey have expanded to places like Wal*Mart and Target, giving the humans another viable choice for their Thanksgiving meal.
In the coming year, we will do more. My administration will continue to reach out to President-Elect Obama and his transition team as we seek more turkey pardons in the coming year. We hope to double the number of pardons for next year, and eventually have two turkeys pardoned per month by the President and each Governor.
Through constant diplomacy and rigorous negotiation, I believe we can succeed in sparing more turkeys over the next few years. My dream, if a turkey is allowed such a thing, is that a turkey family can sit down and eat Thanksgiving dinner together without having to mourn the passing of a relative. It is hard to imagine now, but I believe we can make that dream a reality someday.

Thank you for attention, my fellow turkeys, and may God bless our Turkey nation!

$1.75 and the common man speaks

Heck, yeah.
The common Tashman employee embraces deflation! He stated that what was the best for the nation would be the deciding factor on economic proposals, and would be part of "The new way of doing business."
Unfortunately, I missed the actual announcement related to budget cuts. WBBM stated afterwards that O's plan was "two-pronged": first, spend tax dollars via stimulus package to boost the economy; second, cut the deficit after the economy recovers. O proposes giving money to states for infrastructure projects. I'm sure the city of Miami and the Florida Marlins cheered at the news, as did Fort Myers and the Red Sox.
We all know how useful baseball stadiums are in Florida. Think about that next time your stuck in traffic on I-595.
Anyway ... what a shock - Federal spending cuts have been pushed off to the future ... you know, the future that never seems to arrive? That future.
Well, I guess we can all hope that stimulus package will help out the lower-middle class working man in a big way. I hope that includes Tashman.

The Future of Movie Sales

The three disc release of Wall-E includes a downloadable digital copy compatible with Windows Media and iTunes.
The price for the set is $34.99.
Eventually, they'll just sell the downloadable version ... glad we're on the right track.

AFM: standing in line

Well, after a two hour wait, I was able to place my first order of food through Angel Food Ministries. I got $100 worth of food for $51.
Here's what I witnessed:
- Volunteer-led disorganization
- An argument between two middle aged ladies wearing sweatsuit-type clothing.
- People carrying boxes, giant coolers, and laundry baskets to pick up their food.
- Cash only. No checks.
- A volunteer handwriting numbers on slips of paper in order to organize people picking up their food.
Once I got over my initial shock, the experience was okay - certainly far better than being on the E-train while a homeless vet sings out of tune for money, for example. Most of the people waiting were pleasant LME practitioners, and the volunteers were doing their best.
I'd say there were 150 families picking up food, and another 20 like me placing orders for next month.
If you are struggling and looking to save money somewhere, give this AFM a try. Look at me: don't feel embarrassed or shy. It's okay to get cheap food, even if you have a job.
Of course, if you watch justin.tv hoping to catch a suicide before watching XXX, you are not allowed to use the AFM. You've already purchased your one way ticket to hell, and if you starve before you get there, so much the better.
Have a nice day.
Being seeing you.

LDOTR: Rush Jumps the Somali Shark

Rush led his show saying things like, "Moody's now rates the Somali Pirates AAA ... Somali Pirates are becoming a bank to get bailout money from Paulson ... Bloomberg News is reporting that the Somali Pirates have put in an offer to buy Citibank."
And that's why Rush SUCKS. I'm surprised he didn't have a rimshot play as he did his stand-up routine at the expense of those who have been kidnapped or killed by these scum..
He proceeded to explain that the stock market is down because of fear that Obama will raise taxes ... CNBC talking heads have talked for years about how the market tends to react negatively when Democrats are elected to President.
Anyway, because Rush just HAD to push the envelope, his real point got lost. That and his winning percentage have been big selling points to sway Francessa.
The people against Moose say he wasn't dominant enough. After a few of those calls, Francessa found ten of Moose's seasons that he deemed Hall of Fame caliber.
At one point, Francessa tried to compare Moose to Guidry as a way of showing that Moose didn't belong ... But that blew up in his face. Guidry only has approximately 170 wins! Silly comparison.
We'll see if the baseball writers are convinced by these arguments to let Moose in the Hall of Fame in five years....

What I learned today from GMA and NPR

- GMA talking heads like Sorkin have zero sympathy for Union workers, and applaud the Senate cancelling a vote on a automaker bailout. GMA also reported that auto execs use expensive private jets to fly around.
- GMA had a computer graphic presentation showing how one pirate can cause a ship's captain to surrender a ship merely by capturing one crewman at gunpoint.
- NPR's Steve Innskeep interviewed a Navy Admiral who called for shipping companies to hire "Security details" for their boats. That was followed by a typically frustrating Innskeep interview with the head of security company. Innskeep kept trying to find out when would security on a boat shoot a pirate (trying to pitch the security guy as evil?), then turned around and actually asked why they don't just put a cannon on the ship and blow the pirates out of the water. The security head kept saying they would prevent pirates from boarding, and blowing pirates out of the water would make a security detail as bad as pirates.
I'm glad the MSM is against the auto bailout, and I'm glad the Pirates of Aden are being talked about. I guess the MSM waited for the election to end before covering that story.

Therockradio.com

I just heard G n' R (doing Welcome to the Jungle live), Foo Fighters, Dio, Ramones, Motley Crue, and the Clash on therockradio.com.
